Family Farms

“Who’s Your Farmer?”

This question, popping up on bumper stickers across the country, speaks to an increasing interest in where our food comes from—an interest The Good Table profoundly shares.

Owner Barbara Moore spent her childhood on a Vermont farm, which gave her an appreciation for fresh, seasonal ingredients and handcrafted food. She knows from experience that small farms provide unrivaled fare for her cafés and catering needs. Freshly picked local fruits and sun-ripened vegetables are more than just nice ideas to her; they’re mainstays of her menus. And to keep her agricultural heritage alive, she has partnered with Denison Farm to grow organic produce especially for The Good Table.

With roots firmly planted in southern Vermont, owner Barbara Moore holds a close affinity for the region and its landscape, as eloquently described in the poem The Haystack Mountain by Mary Edgerton.

The Best Foods Come From Small Farms

We value time-honored treasures such as artisan whole-grain breads and regional cheeses made from sheep, cow, and goats’ milk. Peek in our pantry and you’ll find real Vermont maple syrup and wildflower honey, plus native brown rice and couscous mixes, which are seasoned with organically grown New England tomatoes, garlic, and herbs. At some of our cafés, the menus even feature grass-fed aged natural beef from a local family farm.

Community Supported Agriculture

As an added service, we offer all our customers the chance to join a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. This connection to a farmer provides an opportunity to bring home the same wonderful produce that’s enjoyed in our cafés. Both at work and at home, our customers savor vegetables and fruits harvested at peak ripeness from late spring through fall.

And just in case you don’t know what to do with bok choy, kale, or celeriac, not to worry. At www.denisonfarm.com you’ll discover scores of recipes, plus helpful storage tips so you can make the most of each week’s bounty.

When you team up with The Good Table, you get so much more than a café lunch.
